Unas Pyramid, Fifth Dynasty, Saqqara Cemetery, ancient kingdom (2375-2345 b.c)

The Pyramid of Ounas is located southwest of the Step Pyramid complex at Saqqara. The current height of the Pyramid of King Ounas is approximately 19 meters, although its original height at the time of construction was 44 meters. The length of each side of that pyramid is approximately 67 meters.

The Pyramid of Unas is largely demolished, and it is quite clear that this pyramid was built using local limestones, as it now appears when looking at it as a solid block, but very many of the cladding stones that were used in building that stone are still in place.

The entrance to the pyramid is located on the northern side and was carved into the rock to be a fairly short distance from the base of the pyramid.

This entrance leads to a descending corridor carved in the rock, which takes us to the burial chamber with a trussed roof decorated with a group of wonderful engraved stars, which reveal to us the extent of the progress of ancient Egyptian sculpture and artists. In the burial chamber we find the sarcophagus made of black granite, then we find on the walls of the burial chamber the most important feature of the Pyramid of Unas, which is the pyramid texts written on the walls that describe the journey of the deceased king to the other world.
